Zea mays L.

Maize is an annual, erect plant growing 200 to 300 cm tall. The leaf blades are 25-100 cm long and 20-100mm wide.
One variety is the Zea mays (saccharata var.) which is the sweet corn variety. It is an erect, monoecious annual grown best in well-drained rich soil in the temperate and tropical regions of Australia. It will not grow in cold conditions.
Praecox var. is the popcorn variety. Grows under the same conditions as the other maize.
Distribution:
It is cultivated in high rainfall coastal districts in WA, Qld and NSW.
